A right royal to-do...

As the big day looms ever closer, hundreds of 20 something women up and down the country will be sobbing into their Louboutins, avidly watching the TV for a glimpse of the woman who stole their prince charming. Each of them wondering what is so special about the girl they call Kate Middleton. Now I can't really knock a girl with the same name as me, especially as ultimately she will be the future queen of England but some of these spurned ladies may have a point......

Ladies, lets first look at Miss M's dress sense. At first glance it screams dull, sloaney and ill fitting, who wears a polo neck jumper with a suit, really?! Low to mid heels, sensible skirt lengths and matchy matchy shoe/bag combo's that even Karen Millen wouldn't approve of. None of this adds up to style icon status for poor Kate. I'm sure no disconcerting 20 something has ever looked at a picture of her and thought 'I need that!'. Then she shocked us all by wearing THAT dress, you all know the one I mean. The Issa dress. A perfect shade of royal blue to match the sapphire in her gorgeous engagement ring. Kate single handedly raised the profile of this high street store and more than quadrupled their profits in a matter of minutes. Quite a skill for someone so fashionably challenged. But will she change her style when she has those magical letters before her name? Will she ditch the safe hem lines and sloney uniform knee high boots? I personally feel the fashion jury will release their verdict when she walks down the isle. Who will she be wearing? McQueen? Temperley? Oldfield? Westwood? Its any ones guess, but one thing is for sure it will say more about her  and whats to come than any amount of column inches.

Secondly the press releases for Kate seem to want to promote her as a normal girl. We have been given a glimpse of her shopping in Tesco, as apparently she has Le Cruset on her wedding list and drives a Fiat Punto but what does this really tell us about Kate? Are we really buying this 'ordinary girl' image? Is there more to her? Do we really care? Ultimately she is a working girl done good. A graduate of St Andrew's University who appears to be more than a little work shy (she has only ever had 1 job for a short while). Is there more to Kate than the press release of a fine sports woman and home counties sweetie? Only time will tell......

As I sat chatting with the girls this week it was clear we were all excited at the prospect of an extra bank holiday. Every one was buzzing with plans of  the day spent with friends in the pub, family BBQ's and street parties. But no one actually has plans to watch the wedding and very few of my friends had any interest in the details of the big day. This interested me - clearly we are all more excited by a day off than seeing Miss M slip down the isle. What does that say about you Kate?!

As the big day gets nearer we can only imagine the nerves and excitement growing for Kate. For whatever our opinions on her, the day or the dress one thing is very sure. From 11am next Friday, Kate's life will sadly no longer be her own. So from one Kate to another, good luck hun xx
